Dell Mini 1018 and memory upgrade issue

I bought a netbook and i bought a Kingstone memory for my netbook. I placed memory in netbook but it did not work. I got black screen. I gave it back and bought a new one. But it did not work either. I spent 2 days for finding the right memory for my netbook. I found one but it is in UK. I reached Dell Turkey distributor company and they said to me “There is a problem with Dell mini 1018 about upgrading to 2 GB memory.” I tried to downgrade to Windows XP but there is no driver for Windows XP. Now i am using it with 1 GB memory and i am not happy with this.
